Ovation Standard Left Hand Guitar

For aesthetic purposes, this Ovation Celebrity Standard left handed acoustic/electric guitar is a good place to start. With its  honey burst finish absolutely beautiful, it looks like Gibson’s  bright orange/yellow center, filled with a darkening red on the edges with LP Sunburst finish.

The first thing I noticed on the Ovation left handed guitar was the absence of a pick guard. If your pick attack is fierce, you could end up damaging the finish around the string area. So you can either alter your picking technique or select another instrument WITH a pick guard. I would NOT cover up that lovely finish for anything!

The bridge is designed so the strings are pulled through from the bottom, very solid and easy to restring and the sound of an Ovation left handed acoustic guitar is something else. Clear, precise tone is the order of the day and solid tuning keys ensures that you will stay in tune all the time you are playing.

Negative: Over tensioning the strings could cause body warping or cracking over time. No adjustment.
Ovation electronics are hard to beat in their acoustic/electric lines. While the amplification works wonderfully (I have played mine with a distortion pedal! WOW!), it also includes an equalizer that allows you to sculpt your sound to a tee. The tone retains it’s acoustic characteristics and still sounds like an acoustic. When amplified, this left handed guitar can easily imitate the best electrics.

Downside: The amplification modules take a 9 volt battery and consume a lot of those batteries and also hard to open . Unplugging the cord helps save the battery, but I would advise you to carry a spare.

Like all Ovation guitars, the Ovation left handed guitar, has a rounded back. When playing in a seated position, some players complain that it slides off. A good strap or daily practice can  easily remedy this problem. For it is that rounded plastic back that gives Ovations their unique sound.

With a slim neck, the Ovation left handed acoustic guitars have a thinner than almost any acoustic you will have ever play with. It is easy to play, just like you would your axe and lay down yourself to a chunky rhythm line. With practice you will get used to, but it is well the worth it.

NOTE: As any player knows, all guitars is picked as a  matter of preference and with Ovation you can always have the neck strobed to lower the action on the strings. Because some players have said the action is too high on this guitar. There is a lot of good reason you should get one!
For lefty players, to begin with, this left handed instrument, the Ovation left handed guitar is right on target. It is affordable, playable, versatile and good quality.
